2022 California Lichen Society annual meeting and foray

The California Lichen Society is planning to hold our annual meeting in and around Arcata, California, on Saturday, March 19, 2022. Registration for the meeting is now open!

We will take a field trip at a notable lichen location within an hour or so of Arcata during the day, followed by an evening social, potluck dinner, meeting, and guest lecture in downtown Arcata.

We are very excited to welcome Dr. Klara Scharnagl as our guest speaker during the evening session. Klara is the new Tucker Curator of Lichenology at the Jepson Herbarium (UC Berkeley), and we look forward to welcoming her into our community.

Our meeting will follow the Northwest Lichenologists meeting, also in Arcata, March 17-18. The NWL meeting is currently at capacity, but is accepting registrations for the waitlist.

As the new president of the California Lichen Society, I look forward to welcoming you all to the North Coast. It should be a great opportunity to make new friends and catch up with old friends. Everyone is welcome, whether you are a novice or a seasoned lichenologist.

Locations and schedule details for both the field trip and the evening session will be sent to registrants before the event.

You can also stay updated on lichen-related events in California by following the CALS facebook page and joining the CA lichens google group (to join, send an email to california-lichens+subscribe@googlegroups.com). And check out our new CALS store with t-shirts, hats and more!

We request that registrants give a donation to help cover the costs of renting the space for the meeting if possible, but no one will be turned away. Any proceeds beyond the meeting costs will go to support our grants program, which primarily funds student research on lichens.

Feel free to contact me with any questions about the meeting.

Symbiotically yours,

Jesse Miller,
