CALS Conservation Committee brainstorm list

After our January 05 meeting, we developed the list that is in the attached EXCEL file.  I’ve also pasted it in below, but the column formatting is destroyed.

CALS Conservation Committee Lists

This is a set of lists of lichen taxa for which the California Lichen Society’s Conservation Committee is seeking information.
There is no implication that inclusion on this list indicates rarity of the taxon in California until the species is formally accepted
to a numbered list other than list 3 (more information needed)!  The black box list is under development through a largely
brainstorming process with rejection of only species clearly known to not appropriately fit a numbered list.

CALIFORNIA LISTINGS
1A: Presumed Extinct in CA
[none can be placed here before April, 2006]

1B: Rare, Threatened, or Endangered in CA and elsewhere
[none can be placed here before April, 2006]

2:  Rare Threatened, or Endangered in CA, more common elsewhere
[none can be placed here before April, 2006]

3: need more info (these have base sponsorship information developed and CALSCC has agreed for them to
proceed, but they await further info for placement on other numbered)
[none can be placed here before Oct, 2005]

4: limited distribution (watch list)
[none can be placed here before April, 2006]

THE BLACK BOX: These are species that have been largely ‘brainstormed’ as worthy of sponsorship.  CALSCC has
made only minimal effort to reject species at this point.  INCLUSION ON THIS LIST SHALL NOT BE INTERPRETED
AS IMPLYING RARITY OR ANY CONSERVATION STATUS.
